- Help! What Do We Wear?
-
Choosing the right outfits for your photo session is key to creating beautiful and cohesive portraits. Here are some tips to help you decide:
- Comfort and Personality: Wear something you feel comfortable in and that matches your personality.
- Colors:
- Stick to complementary tones without overly matching.
- Use neutral colors like grey, tan, cream, and white as your base to create a cohesive look.
- Add pops of primary and jewel tones (yellow, red, blue) to bring life to your photos, but avoid having too many strong colors in one group photo.
- Minimize the use of black and white to avoid stark contrasts.
- For newborn shoots, stick to simple colors with soft blues and pinks.
- Consider the location: light colors for beach sessions and warm colors for park sessions to contrast the greenery.
- Patterns:
- Avoid clashing patterns. Patterns are great if not everyone is wearing them.
- Florals, stripes, and spots can work well if limited to one person.
- Avoid gingham or small prints for outdoor sessions, as they work better in studio settings.
- Avoid logos or writing on clothing.
- Style:
- Textures and layers look great.
- Match the style of clothes to the location.
- For lifestyle shoots, wear clothes you normally wear at home.
- Pick one outfit you love and style the rest around it.
- Pay attention to footwear—ensure your shoes complement your outfit and the location.
- Showcase your personality—don’t dress plainly if your style is eclectic.
- Ensure everyone feels comfortable in their clothes.
- Grooming and Hair Choices:
- Men should shave unless they prefer the stubble or beard look. Note that I cannot Photoshop stubble.
- Fingernails should be clean and, if polished, the polish should be intact on all nails.
- Please be aware that I am not responsible for your hair choices. Make sure your hair is styled as you want it to appear in your photos.
The most important thing is to feel comfortable in your choices. You don’t need to buy a new outfit unless you want to!
I'm happy to consult with you about outfits in person, via text, or through social media messages to help you pick the best options for your session.
- Turnaround Time:
-
Most sessions are edited within one to two weeks. Turnaround times are usually quicker in the summer and winter. Fall and spring are busier seasons, so the turnaround time may be slightly longer.
